A list of the national awareness campaigns and events are outlined on this page.
All these campaigns are carefully developed to ensure that the key messages about the disease are delivered to the relevant audience. The main purpose of each campaign is to raise the level of awareness of early cancer symptoms and the impact on late presentation and reduction in survival rates. -

Prostate

Prostate Cancer Awareness
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. Often men have no signs or symptoms and little awareness of the disease that kills 10,000 men in the UK every year.
This is the sixth year of the prostate awareness campaign which aims to raise the profile of prostate cancer across the UK.

Local prostate cancer awareness event
Sandwell Prostate Cancer Support Group are yet again carrying out their community walk for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. This is the third year of the event and they are looking forward to a very good turn out.

Ovarian
Ovarian cancer action month aims to increase disease awareness, symptom recognition and encourage participation in fundraising.

Bowel cancer
Bowel cancer awareness month aims to increase the level of symptom recognition for those members of the population at most risk.

SunSmart
Skin cancer is in the main caused by excessive exposure to ultraviolet light from the sun. In addition, regular use of sunlamps and sunbeds which can also increase the risk of developing some skin cancers.
The SunSmart campaign was launched in 2003 and enters its tenth year. It aims to offer advice about the importance of prevention and what to look for if you are concerned. In addition to giving an opportunity to share ideas of activities, resources and feedback to the month long programme.Full details of this years campaign will be available shortly.

Ethnic Minority Cancer Awareness Week (EMCAW)
Ethnic Minority Cancer Awareness Week will be entering its 5th year in July 2012. The week aims to increase the knowledge of cancers and their symptoms that affect ethnic groups to greater extent than those of the indigenous population. In addition it also offers advice and guidance to those patients and carers affected by cancer.

Breast
Most cases of breast cancer are found by women noticing abnormal changes, taking the initiative and visiting thier GP. Other cases are detected by regular screening. The earlier breast cancer is detected, the greater the chance of cure.

Mouth
Mouth cancer awareness week aims to increase the level of symptom recognition for those members of the population at most risk.

Lung
Lung cancer is the second most diagnosed cancer in the UK and in 8 out of 10 cases the main cause is smoking. The awareness month aims to to increase awareness of key signs and symptoms of lung cancer, in addition to encouraging individuals to seek help early.
