NHS Pan Birmingham Cancer Network

  • Key performance indicators

Key performance indicators (KPIs) are measures agreed by the network site specific groups that provide an ongoing means of:

    • monitoring the quality and outcomes of cancer treatment
    • reviewing consistency between provider organisations, and
    • providing evidence that cancer services are safe, equitable and deliver good outcomes for patients

Unlike our audits, which are for a fixed term, KPIs are subject to ongoing review with a report produced on an annual basis. The final reports, including the recommendations and actions agreed by the network site specific groups, are shared with the network governance committee.

In deciding upon the KPIs the relevant NICE Improving outcomes guidance and national cancer audit measures are taken into account. Where there is no national guidance or national audit standards available the network site specific groups identify measures that they consider to be clinically relevant.

The agreed KPIs and their status are described below. A table showing all of the agreed KPIs and relevant timescales is available here.
